East/west highway topic of chambers annual meeting

Sandy Blitz executive director of the East/West Highway Association was the guest Speaker at the Southern Piscataquis County Chamber of Commerce annual meeting.

The annual meeting was held at the Piscataquis Regional YMCA on April 21, 1999 with 21 members in attendance.

Mr. Blitz spoke not only of the economic importance of the East/West highway but of the need to organize early.

Mr. Blitz explained that the next round o Federal highway funding will take place in the year 2003. We cannot afford to wait three years before we develop a plan, we must act now.

A question and answer session was held after Mr. Blitz spoke.

The program on the East/West highway is part of a series of meetings arranged by the chamber to discuss the important economic topics that effect Piscataquis County.

Successful Expo Held by Chamber

The Penquis Valley Expo held on April 9 & 10 at PCHS in Guilford was a huge success said Chamber director Dennis Lyford.

67 exhibitors took part in this years expo which set an all time record for the show, plus a number of special exhibits were present as well.

Highlights for the day and a half show were:

Piscataquis County Business Conference to be held at Foxcroft Academy

Piscataquis County Business Conference on May 11, 1999

Sponsored by the Piscataquis County Economic Development Council, Maine Market Development Center and Maine Rural Development Council, the 1999 Piscataquis County Business Conference ill feature sessions on Business Financing and Getting and Doing Business On-Line.

The conference scheduled foe May 11, 1999 will run from 3 - 8 PM and is free to any Piscataquis County resident or representative of a business in Piscataquis County.

The conference includes a panel discussion with representatives from the financing sector who will also ve available to meet with individuals. Web design companies will be on exhibit.

Jim Dowe, President of Bangor Savings Bank will be the opening speaker. Dinner will be served at 6 PM with concurrent workshops running from 7 - 8 PM.

Students Design Chamber Brochures

Five Adult Education students from the Atkinson Learning Center have designed several brochures for the Southern Piscataquis County Chamber of Commerce. The five students are Christine Slobuszewski, Dorothy Dube, Dorothy Williams and Dean Weeks.
