There will be a risk factor screening session at Heartwise, located in suite 400 of the medical office building, on Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 6:30-11:30 a.m. Heartwise will screen for weight, blood pressure and fasting lipid profile (participants must fast 12-14 hours prior to testing). A reduced fee of $21 will be charged, and all participants will receive a free gift

Two Heartsaver cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) basic life support courses are scheduled, the first on Feb. 17 at 6:30 p.m., and the second at 5 p.m. on Feb. 23. Both events will be held in the Heartwise suite in the medical office building on the Mayo campus. The instructors will be two paramedics with Mayo Emergency Medical Services, Brenda Oldfield on Feb. 17 and Will Hesketh on Feb. 23. The course costs $25 for recertifications and $35 (textbook included) for new learners. For more information or to register, call Nina Pratt at Heartwise, 564-4207.

Heartwise will also launch a month-long project, in cooperation with Goulette's IGA in Guilford, Graves SuperMarket in Dover-Foxcroft, Save-A-Lot, Bud's Shop 'n Save in Dexter, and the Milo Farmers Union, to promote the importance of proper diet in preventing heart disease. Labels will identify more than 1,000 items of Heart Healthy foods throughout those stores.
