PENQUIS - Appalachian Mountain Club Project Manager Gerry Whiting will make a presentation on AMC’s Maine Woods Initiative at the Penquis Valley Region Expo on Saturday, April 3, at Piscataquis Community High School in Guilford. The AMC’s presentation will be part of a conference entitled, "The Future of Out door Recreation in Piscataquis County,” said Chamber Director Dennis Lyford. The Chamber believes adding the conference to the Expo schedule will give Expo goers an opportunity to obtain information on outdoor recreation in our region, said Lyford. The AMC topic will be the Maine Woods Initiative, a strategy for land conservation that integrates habitat protection, recreation, education and sustainable forest practices in Maine’s 100-mile wilderness. The AMC recently purchased a 37,000-acre parcel of land near the Katahdin Iron Works as part of the initiative. The outdoor recreation conference will be held at the PCHS library at 11 a.m., to be followed by a presentation by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries.
