The Grist Mill Museum will open for its 36th season on Monday, June 14. Hours are Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 4:00, Saturday 1:00 to 4:00. Volunteers are always welcome and anyone interested in assisting with host duties can call 924-5721.

Work by volunteers and contractors has continued at the former Abbott Mill office, now the Abbott Museum, all winter and spring. Parts of the foundation were replaced and a cement floor poured under the Church St. end of the building. The job of replacing all the clapboards was finished. A new furnace was installed with temporary heaters set up to allow interior work to continue.

Most of the insulation work has been completed and the bathrooms are in service. The walls in the front room, which will be the museum shop and gift shop, have been wainscoted, the ceiling finished with v-match paneling and the lighting fixtures installed. The floors in the genealogy room have been refinished and work nears completion in the reading room and staff work area. The Crawford Conference Room has been finished with rug and fabric wallpaper. It has been furnished with a conference table made from the large slate sign that used to be on the FayScott tower, that the company had made into a table.

An opening date will be announced soon. Many generous donations and a USDA Rural Development grant have made possible the work so far.
