Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Auction July 25-27
Thursday, June 20, 2002
DOVER-FOXCROFT - The dates for the 54th annual summer auction have been selected by the Kiwanis Club of Dover-Foxcroft and its charitable arm, Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Charities. The auction will be scheduled under a new format this year, with the event shifting from two-day sessions on consecutive weeks to one, three-day weekend, Thursday-Saturday on July 25, 26 and 27 at the Piscataquis Valley Fair Grounds in Dover-Foxcroft.

Thursday, July 25, will be Antique & Crafters Night from 6-9 p.m., Friday, July 26 will be Motors Night from 6-9 p.m., and the final auction day on Saturday, July 27, will include a bazaar with crafters' displays and sales from 3-9 p.m. The auction barn will be open each day one hour prior to the start of the auction.

The event also includes a Bargain Barn, Book Barn and food sales. Kiwanis has purchased a new food concession trailer and will offer more menu items this summer.

Club members are selling auction raffle tickets for $2 each, or three for $5. The prize is $500 in cash or a $1,000 U.S. Savings Bond, and the winning ticket will be drawn July 27.

Kiwanis Club members will be canvassing neighborhoods in Dover-Foxcroft for a door-to-door solicitation for auction items starting the week of July 8. If you have items you would like to have picked up, contact Auction co-chair Dennis Lyford at the Southern Piscataquis County Chamber of Commerce, 564-7533, to arrange a pick-up date and time.

Donations of items for the auction can be deducted from state and federal income taxes. With this benefit, you can turn old items, which are no longer of use to you, into reductions in your income tax next spring. Kiwanis members can provide receipts for any auction donation received.

Last year the Kiwanis auction raised over $15,500 to help support a variety of activities and programs in the Dover-Foxcroft region.
