It is also the name of one of Maine's premiere bluegrass bands. From Lake View Plantation, Maine, Elise and Kevin Sproul, Formerly of "Rare Birds", are joined by Terry Spearrin and Bernie Staples, both from the Skowhegan area, who were in the band, "Good Clean Fill". Drawing on influences as diverse as country, blues, rock, folk, traditional and new bluegrass music, "Chairback Gap's" harmonies and innovative sound will surely please audiences with a wide variety of musical tastes. Catchy original tunes are also included in this band's repertoire. Chairback Gap has recently released a new CD of original and cover tunes entitled, "For the Good Times". More about the artists: Elise Sproul - The primary lead vocalist for the band, Elise also plays banjo and guitar. In 1980, while studying at the University of Maine, she started her musical career by performing at coffeehouses and other local venues. Elise is best known for her strong evocative vocals and high tenor harmonies. Her unique banjo and guitar playing help define the CBG sound. Elise also performs with Sweetgrass, a quartet of women musicians. |
