PENQUIS - Sixteen people representing local snowmobile clubs in the Southern Piscataquis County Region recently attended a meeting in Dover-Foxcroft to discuss the forming of a snowmobile trail loop for the region. The Southern Piscataquis County Chamber of Commerce Tourism Task Force Co - chaired by Jim Macomber and Angela Snow organized the meeting. Macomber and Snow outlined a Chamber plan to attract snowmobilers to the region by creating a region wide snowmobile loop, using the existing snowmobile trail system. The proposed loop would be shaped like a figure eight and would include towns of Dexter, Charleston, Atkinson, Milo, Brownville, Brownville Jct., Monson, Abbott, Guilford, Sangerville, Sebec and Dover-Foxcroft. Macomber and Snow explained further that if the project were to be successful the local snowmobile clubs would need to play a key role in development of the proposed loop. The Chamber plans over the summer to begin a dialog with local the snowmobile clubs, town officials and area businesses to explain the proposed loop project. The long range goal of Chamber�s Tourism Task is to develop the tourism industry in Southern Piscataquis Region explained Chamber Executive Director Dennis Lyford, creating a snowmobile loop in the region would be the first step in that process said Lyford.
