Health Council Awards $76,500 in Minigrants to improve health (update)
Friday, July 12, 2002
The Piscataquis Public Health Council, a Healthy Maine Partnership, awarded $53,000 in minigrants to 22 community groups. The school districts MSAD 46 and 68, and Union 60 awarded $23,500 to nine community groups.

These one-time minigrants support projects that will reduce tobacco use, increase physical activity, or improve nutrition in Piscataquis County and the Dexter area. The initiatives range from developing walking trails and public parks to family-oriented events. Some projects educate citizens so they have more tools to make healthy changes in their communities. Others directly improve the health of individuals through targeted programs. Many quality applications were received, and an Award Committee determined the final recipients.
