GREENVILLE - There are still seats for the Forest Heritage Days Bus Tour leaving the Greenville School parking lot at 9:00 AM on Friday August 9. Two buses will make the loop trip that goes from Greenville, east past Wilson Pond to Katahdin Iron Works and the North Maine Woods gate. We will then proceed to wood processing mills in Milo, Dover-Foxcroft, Guilford, and Monson with a trip to Breakneck Ridge Farm in Blanchard to see the Hobarts' deer and bison along with their Tree Farm. After a stop at the future home of the Natural Resource Education Center of Maine the buses will return to Greenville at 5:00 PM, in time for the Forest Heritage Days Supper at the Greenville Community House. Buses are air conditioned and have rest rooms. To reserve your seat call Rhonda Arey at 695-2241 between the hours of 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM weekdays or e-mail Gary Morse at [email protected]. There will be a minimal charge (no more than $25.00 each) for the tour which will include the bus ride, morning and afternoon beverages and a lunch of Breakneck Ridge Farm raised venison or vegetarian - please specify. This will be your chance to see close up the management practices of landowners like Plum Creek Timber, International Paper Company and Wagner Forest Management as well as some of the things the harvested wood is made into in the various mills in the area. Come see how wildlife, recreation and forest products harvesting can coexist as we work toward sustainable production of various plants and animals in the forest and our critical industrial base in our communities. Resource people on the trip will include foresters from the Maine Forest Service, Plum Creek Timber Company, International Paper Company and Wagner Forest Management. Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife biologists will also be on hand plus representatives from the Natural Resource Education Center, the Piscataquis Economic Development Council and the Maine Master Logger Certification Program. The buses roll in two weeks. Sign up now! For more information call 695-2241 or e-mail [email protected] |
