The Southern Piscataquis County Chamber of Commerce is looking for local chefs to take part in Piscataquis Heritage Festival’s Maine State Barbecue Championship Contest on September 27 & 28 in Dover-Foxcroft. Barbecue teams from the Northern New England States will travel to the Piscataquis Valley Fairgrounds in Dover-Foxcroft on Saturday September 27th to compete for the Maine State Barbecue Championship. The teams will be arriving on Friday night and will begin to prepare their barbecue dishes for the Saturday contest said chamber executive director Dennis Lyford. Lyford reports that three states are already represented in contest and the Chamber is expecting a record number of teams for this year event. On Sunday the barbecue championship will feature a grilling, sauces and Chili contests. These contests are designed to allow local cooks, the opportunity to take part in the fun and excitement of the Maine State Barbecue Championship said Lyford. The Chamber’s goal will be to create a local champion award for the Sunday event said Lyford. The Chamber would like to encourage teams from local clubs. restaurants, cafeterias, caters and others to join in the fun said Lyford.
