The Piscataquis County Soil & Water Conservation District Demonstration Forest is an ongoing project designed to educate the public about forestry and wildlife management, encourage recreation and assist in the training of forestry practices.

This 180-acre parcel of land offers guests two historic homestead sites, unique areas of headwater wetlands, a glacial formed canyon, an enriched hardwood site, a Japanese larch/red pine plantation and more. Interpretive trails offer hiking, cross-country skiing and miles of educational opportunities.

It took many partners to bring this dream to reality, including our neighbors, the Penobscot Indian Nation; the Maine Forest Service, the Foxcroft Academy Forestry Dept., the Brownville area Boy Scouts, Natural Resources Conservation Service, the UMO Forest Ecology Dept., Maine Audubon, the Low Impact Forestry Project, the Piscataquis Public Health Council and so many more.

The lunch menu will include a variety of sandwiches on bulky rolls, pickles, chips, cookies, fruit and beverages. Pre-registration is required for lunch.

For more information or to register, call Sheila Grant at 564-2321.
