DOVER-FOXCROFT - Howard Kesseli of the Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Club was named Kiwanian of the Year for the New England District by Gov. Steve Hill at the annual district convention held Aug. 23-25 at Danvers, Mass. The district includes all six New England states and Bermuda. Kesseli, the outgoing Lt. Governor for the Maine Highlands Division 2 and a past president of the Dover-Foxcroft club, was honored for a lifetime of service to Kiwanis. As Lt. Governor for the past year, Kesseli was instrumental in starting new clubs in Corinth and Guilford. Dr. Harold Sherman of the Dover-Foxcroft club was elected the new Lt. Governor for Division 2, succeeding Kesseli. Dover-Foxcroft also received numerous awards at the club level and was one of only 11 clubs in the New England district to earn the Distinguished Club Award for 2000-2001. Immediate past president Dennis Lyford and secretary David Lockwood were recognized as Distinguished Officers. Dover-Foxcroft received the Kiwanis Achievement Award for a single service project for its multiyear effort to rebuild and expand Kiwanis Park. The club also received both the Special Award and Governor's Award for public relations, earned honorable mention for its club bulletin, and accepted the HOBY Award for support of the Hugh O'Brien Youth Foundation. In the interclub category, Dover-Foxcroft received the most awards of any club in the New England district for its efforts at holding interclub meetings with other Division 2 members. Interclub honors include the Early Bird Award, District Blue Ribbon (First Place), Governor's Award and Governor's Special Award, and the International Achievement Award for having over 50% of club members attend at least one interclub. The Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Club was formed 65 years ago. The community service organization has 60 members and holds breakfast meetings 6:45 a.m. every Tuesday at the Bear's Den Restaurant. |
