DOVER-FOXCROFT - Barbecue teams from Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont and BBQ judges from the state of Alabama will travel to the Piscataquis Valley Fairgrounds in Dover-Foxcroft to take part for The Maine State Barbecue Championship on September 27,2003. The Maine State Barbecue Championship will be part of the two �day Piscataquis Heritage Festival sponsored by the Southern Piscataquis County Chamber of Commerce. The festival also features a Bluegrass concert, artisans and craft show, specialty foods, craft demonstration, paint ball demonstration and much more. Barbecue chairmen Jim Macomber explained that the 2nd annual Maine State Barbecue Championship is being recognized as one the outstanding barbecue event in Northern New England. Macomber reported that 10 teams have pre register for the event and more teams are excepted. The BBQ teams will be judged in 5 cooking categories Chicken, Pork Ribs. Pork Shoulder, Beef Brisket and open class. Prizes will be awarded for each category and the over all winner will declared the Maine State Barbecue Champion. On Sunday teams along with members from the general public will have an opportunity to compete in a sauce, Chili and grilling contests. The Maine State Barbecue Championship is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society and the wining team will be eligible to compete for the national championship in Kansas City.
