Piscataquis Heritage Festival music

DOVER-FOXCROFT - One of the bands to play at the Piscataquis Heritage Festival on October 12 & 13, 2002 on the Piscataquis Valley Fair Grounds, Dover-Foxcroft features Bluegrass straight from the heart of Maine!! Chairback Gap is the valley between Columbus and Chairback mountains, located in the north Maine woods. It is also the name of one of Maine's premiere bluegrass bands.

From Lake View Plantation, Maine, Elise and Kevin Sproul, Formerly of "Rare Birds", are joined by Terry Spearrin and Bernie Staples, both from the Skowhegan area, who were in the band, "Good Clean Fill".

Drawing on influences as diverse as country, blues, rock, folk, traditional and new bluegrass music, "Chairback Gap's" harmonies and innovative sound will surely please audiences with a wide variety of musical tastes. Catchy original tunes are also included in this band's repertoire.

Another popular four-piece band from central Maine, Evergreen, has captivated audiences since 1991. The group's eclectic style melds elements of bluegrass, folk, blues, o1d-time, country, swing, and jazz into a seamless mix of upbeat, energizing acoustic music that appeals to a wide range listeners. Smooth, tight harmonies, solid instrumentation, original interpretations and strong songwriting make this fine band worthwhile listening.

Seasoned performers all, Evergreen creates a fun, relaxed atmosphere onstage. They choreograph their crowd-pleasing show around a single microphone, taking turns fronting, the band and giving the audience to get acquainted with each of them. Ever changing instrumental and vocal blends and good natured banter onstage keep their performances engaging, and fast-paced, and a constantly evolving repertoire keeps the material new and fresh, leaving fans looking forward to their next Evergreen show.

Evergreen is: Steve Chiasson: guitar, bass, Chris Prickitt: banjo. fiddle, accordion, guitar, bass, Nellie Kennedy: bass, guitar, autoharp, mandolin and Joe Kennedy: harmonicas, bass.

The Muddy Marsh Ramblers are a five piece, all acoustic band from Portland, Maine. Playing traditional and their own original bluegrass, they also incorporate old time Celtic reels and jigs into their repertoires.

Martin Swinger, also appearing, is an international award winning contemporary folk musician performing original and traditional Folk music for Coffeehouse & Festival audiences, classic Jazz standards for Dinner audiences, and Educational & Fun music for Children.
