Chamber Gift Certificate sales total $22,000
Monday, January 05, 2004
DOVER-FOXCROFT - The Southern Piscataquis County Chamber of Commerce announced today that the sale of Chamber Gift Certificates for the 2003 Holiday season have totaled over $22,000. The Chamber Certificate Program is designed to encourage local residents to shop locally, explained Chamber Executive Director Dennis Lyford.

In 2002 the Chamber created the Gift Certificate Program as a pilot program in Dover-Foxcroft. Sixty Dover-Foxcroft businesses agreed to except the certificates for goods and services and the Chamber sold over $3,000 worth of certificates.

Encouraged by the results of the Dover-Foxcroft program, the Chamber's Board of Directors voted in June to expand the program to include all of Southern Piscataquis County.

"The Chamber is excited about the results of this year's program," said Lyford. "Our goal for certificate sales was $12,000 and we exceeded the goal by $10,000."

"We had a number of the region's major employers purchase certificates to present to their employees during the Holiday season; this proved to be the key to the success of this year's program," said Lyford. "It was also gratifying to see the major employers helping to support Southern Piscataquis County's smaller businesses," he added.
