The National Folk Festival first started in 1943 and as now the nation’s oldest Folk Festival. The festival has now become a traveling festival and is hosted by a different city every three years. Starting in August 23-25,2002 the festival will began a three-year stay in Bangor Maine. Prior to coming to Bangor the festival enjoyed a very successful three years in East Lansing Michigan. The Folk Festival is excepted to attract several thousand visitors to Central Maine who will come to sample the music, food, and art display that festival has to offer. Mr.. Libby will be speaking not only about the festival and it economy impact, but also the potential role that Piscataquis County can play in the success of the National Folk Festival.
