Cable Logging Program
GREENVILLE: A visit to a cable logging operation in the Moosehead region will be offered on Thursday October 11. The field trip is jointly sponsored by The Natural Resource Education Center and the Central Maine Chapter of Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine. Cable logging is a means of extracting logs from terrain that is too steep or soft for other harvesting methods. The technique is commonly used in the western states but is unusual in Maine. Participants will meet at 12 noon at the Katahdin parking lot in Greenville and car pool to the logging site on Plum Creek land in Frenchtown Township. Preregistration is required as the group size will be limited. Safety helmets will be furnished to participants. For more information and to register for the outing, contact Gary Morse at [email protected] or 695-3825.
