Rural Heritage To Be Featured at Upcoming Festival

PENQUIS AREA - Piscataquis County will celebrate its rural heritage as part of the Piscataquis Heritage Festival scheduled for Columbus Day weekend October 12 & 13th at the Piscataquis Valley Fairgrounds in Dover-Foxcroft.

Dennis Lyford Executive Director of the Southern Piscataquis County Chamber of Commerce explained that the Chamber is please to be able to add Chet committee�s traditional skill demonstration as part of the Piscataquis Heritage Festival.

This will be third year that the Cultural Heritage Echo Tourism Committee or as it is better know as the Chet committee has held this event in Piscataquis County.

The Chet committee will be offer a series demonstration ranging from Blacksmithing /Bee keeping/ woodworking/and other hands on skills that play an important role in Piscataquis County�s rural heritage.

By adding the State of Maine Championship Barbecue Contest/Bluegrass & Folk Music concert/ Maine Artisan Show and other events the Chamber is building on the event that was created by the Chet committee said Lyford.

With the festival's traditional skills demonstration, nine barbecue teams (coming from Maine, New York, Massachusetts and Vermont) seven bands playing, Maine crafters displaying their wares, "this will be a great weekend to be in Piscataquis County said Lyford."
