PENQUIS VALLEY - The Christmas Holiday Season in the greater Penquis Region will officially begin on Saturday December 1, 2001. The Southern Piscataquis County Chamber of Commerce and the Penquis Valley Entrepreneurs Association have announced plans to host the first annual Old Time Penquis Valley Christmas on that day. The event will be chaired by Jim Macomber of the Penquis Valley Entrepreneurs Association. The Old Time Penquis Valley Christmas will be regional event involving many towns in the Greater Penquis Region. The goal said Macomber would be to have people travel from town to town to take part in the many of the actives that are scheduled on that day. The committee is encouraging organizations and groups who are holding Holiday events on that day to contact the Southern Piscataquis County Chamber of Commerce to register their event. Macomber announced that a number of events are being planned including The Kris Kringle Craft Fair in Monson, The Santa Secret Work Shop and the Park ST. Methodist Church Fair in Milo, Dexter Federal Credit Unions Round Robin Basketball Tournament in Dexter and the Annual White Lights Festival in Dover-Foxcroft. The Committee is also planning to have grade school children decorate store front windows in several communities. The Highlight of the day- long event will be a lighted Christmas parade in Dover-Foxcroft beginning at 5:30 PM. Other events being planned are a puppet show and live music in Dover-Foxcroft, a Bed & Breakfast tour, horse a wagon rides and much more.
