RECREATION
Sports enthusiasts come from all over to enjoy our abundant hunting and fishing grounds with public boat landings in most towns. During winter, snowmobile trails are groomed for a day out on the statewide networks of sledding byways.

PARKS and HIKING
Nature abounds in Southern Piscataquis County, and the outdoor enthusiast can find many ways to take in the refreshing scenery and behold the beauty.

ARTS and ENTERTAINMENT
Visual and performing arts, crafts, festivals and fairs are important and thriving traditions in Central Maine. Summer brings the return of the Arcady Music Festival the fills the Congregational Church in dover-Foxcroft with chamber music, outdoor concerts by the Community Band, and an assortment of musical fare ranging from country to gospel.

Art galleries and a variety of special shows and fairs feature works by area artists and craftspeople, reflecting talent from painting to sculpting and quilting to carving. Local history comes alive at museums around the area.

The Piscataquis Valley Fair, and old-fashioned agricultural and free exhibition, signals the end of summer, but not before the many churches and clubs please public penchants and palates with eagerly anticipated bazaars and suppers.

Fall, shining with splendid color, is celebrated with afternoon foliage rides, crisp walks in the woods, topped by a mug of warm, locally-mad apple cider to make an action-packed weekend with the spotlight on fun and hospitality.

INDUSTRY
There's a special work ethic you'll find in employees at the various manufacturing plants, which makes for top-quality, crafted goods.

COMMUNICATIONS and TRAVEL
Located about 45 minutes from Interstate 95, a vast network of well-maintained highways keep Southern Piscataquis County moving

RETAIL BUSINESSES
While visiting our area, visit some of our many Made in Maine craftsmen shops. "Shop Locally" is the area retailer theme. And why not? Just about anything can be purchased without traveling miles to the city.

HEALTH and EDUCATION
Community commitment to quality health care and education is evident in the extensive service and outreach programs offered by area medical facilities and schools.

A modern hospital, area clinics, long term care facilities, and social agencies staffed by skilled professionals provide a full range of medical and counseling services, including health and consumer education programs.

Schools in Southern Piscataquis County are the heart of the community. The buildings are used day and night -- for classes, performances and meetings -- and the doors are open for a lifetime of learning opportunities.

Libraries also have a special place in community life and communication. Regardless of size, libraries are a source of pride to area towns and villages, serving as refuges for solitude and reflection and centers for learning activity and community information.
